Here is just one of the profound highlights:
He tells the story about a 1st grade teacher his wife knows... they call her "the butterfly lady"...every year the teacher would give each student their own cacoon so they could learn metamorphosis and birth. They watch as the butterfly chews a tiny hole in the cacoon then struggles with all its might to squeeze its body through that tiny hole which looks very painful... After lying exhausted for about 10 minutes following its violent emergence...the butterfly finally flies out the open window showing it's beautiful wings.
The lesson...
She tells the children that even though they might be tempted to help their butterfly not have to go through the struggle that they just watched...don't even think about cutting open the cacoon to make it easier for your butterfly...it's the worst possible thing you can do! If the butterfly doesn't break out on it's own...it will never sprout wings and it will quietly die. The children ask why and she tells them that through the difficult struggle to push it's way through the cacoon...it's body pushes liquid through all the tiny capalaries into the wings that harden which then completes a hardy wholesome butterfly.
So the moral to this story...
"Without the struggle...
there are no wings!"
